I came across this most excellent meme a while back. I'm not quite up to date to how this meme got its start but I think it has something to do with this:

This meme involves turning captcha into a somewhat epic story. It is one of the most creative and hilarious things I have seen come out of the asshole of the internet. I have therefore created a large collection.

Man Gets High On Fake Weed, Leads Cops On Chase To Save Girlfriend From Aliens

I couldn't possibly think of a better title for this one.

Richard Donald Blanscet's Wednesday night antics should vault him to Internet stardom. Why? He got high on Mr. Nice Guy "synthetic marijuana" then hopped into his burgundy Jaguar to save his girlfriend from an alien invasion--after hearing Dr. Phil's voice in his head. Along the way he sparked a 120-mph police chase.

It all went down in Rowan County, North Carolina last night. With cops, fire trucks, and EMS personnel already at his house after he reacted poorly to his fake weed, Blanscet heard Dr. Phil, speaking in a high-pitched voice, alert him that America was being invaded by aliens. Not one to shirk his duty, he immediately hopped into his burgundy Jaguar (no model mentioned in the report), nearly hitting an EMS vehicle, and streaked across the county at 100-120 mph, cops in tow, to save his girlfriend from the presumably grey-skinned hordes.

As a bonus, the chase led through the classic B-movie scenes: a cemetery, a church, and a field, before eventually ending in a crash at an intersection. Blanscet told police he didn't stop for the cars chasing him because when he saw the lights, he "realized the invasion was real and the cops were on it."

Moral of the story: don't listen to Dr. Phil.

Streaming Movies Past Copyright Laws

I ran across this article. This is a very interesting concept for a website. It is a lot similar to Netflix style streaming without the limited selection of new DVDs.

A Clever End Run Around the Movie-Streaming Gremlins

Fellow movie fans, we find ourselves in a time of great transition. We have one foot in the world of recorded movies — a time of fantastic selection, but also a time of tapes and discs. Our descendants will laugh their little holographic heads off when they hear about our ridiculous trips driving back and forth to the video store.

Yet we have another foot in the glorious future — movies that stream from the Internet, on demand, to our televisions, laptops and phones. That’s convenient, but missing so much of the DVD experience. We can’t turn on subtitles that help in times of mumbled dialogue, viewer deafness or sleepers in the next room. We can’t choose a different language for the dialogue. We miss out on the director’s commentary.

Furthermore, the lawyers have viciously clipped the wings of the streaming-movie era. You have to start watching a movie within 30 days of renting it and finish it within 24 hours. Not all movies are available for streaming, and once they’ve appeared in the catalog, they may disappear for six to nine months during the HBO window, as the moguls call it.

Above all, fellow cinephiles, we can’t have both $1 movies (like those you rent at Redbox kiosks) and instant access to the newest releases. You can pay $4 to Apple or Vudu the day the DVD comes out, or you can get it for $1 from a Redbox machine a couple of months later. And let’s not even mention Netflix’s streaming-movie collection, most of which seems to date back to the Carter administration.

But what if I told you that there’s a new streaming-movie service, Zediva.com, that eliminates every single one of those drawbacks? It lets you listen to the director’s commentary, turn on subtitles and change languages. It lets you enjoy your movie for two weeks instead of 24 hours, starting and stopping at will. It offers the 100 biggest movies for streaming on the very same day the DVD comes out. It sidesteps any meddling by the movie companies, HBO contracts and studio lawyers.

No Excuses!

So I've been pretty lately busy lately. Even though it's Spring Break for me, I've had so much to study.

I know, I know

I also recently developed a somewhat serious addiction to EverQuest,which happens to be one of the first successful MMOs. I played years ago but got into again. I know its a lame excuse but I'm having good times.

I'm going to enjoy my time, dammit.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll catch up eventually. I'm trying to enjoy my time while I have it. I so rarely do have free time.

What do you people do for a living?

I'm away from a computer for awhile, and posting from my phone. Since I lack any means to give you rich and juicy content to enjoy, I want to ask something of you. What do you do for a living? Or if you're a student, what are you trying to do for a living? Or if you have no source of income and are not pursuing anything, just put "mom's basement."

To start off. I'm going for a B.S. in Civil Engineering and then an M.S. in Environmental Engineering. I also work a somewhat shitty part-time job.

Japan: More Bad News

Unfortunately, there was an explosion at the nuclear reaction I mentioned in yesterday's post. Apparently it isn't as bad as it could have been. The reactor didn't explode itself and the radiation leakage is minimal.

UPDATE 1-Japan trying to fix nuclear plant cooling problem

TOKYO, March 11 (Reuters) - A cooling system for a nuclear reactor was not working after a powerful earthquake in Japan, prompting the government to declare an emergency situation as a precaution although it said there was no radioactive leakage at present.
Residents that live within a 3 km radius of Tokyo Electric Power's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant have been told to evacuate, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference.
TEPCO confirmed that water levels inside the reactors at its Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear plant were on a falling trend, but added it was working to maintain water levels to avert the exposure of nuclear fuel rods.

You have got to love innovation. Here is a post from one of my favorite blogs of a company using kites to save on fuel consumption of big container ships.

Imagine that you run a shipping company that owns large container ships or supertankers. Your ships are burning lots of fuel – tens of thousands of gallons per day. The Emma Mærsk shown here burns something like 40,000 gallons per day at full speed

Justin Beiber Experiment

Well, I wasn't really thinking about posting this but a few people seemed interested enough.

I don't think it was all that wildly successful. I seem to have gotten only 5 hits from google and bing in 12+ hours from using Justin Bieber as a search term. I don't think this really qualifies as a overwhelming number of hits but it's not too bad for the size of my blog.

I'm not exactly at the top of google pagerank, am I?

Actually googling it, apparently that would be yahoo.

Religion - Explained in Pictures

There is a certain amount of hypocracy and ignorance in the religious community. I am sure that this is the only reason religion continues to survive even in the world dominated by the advances of science and human knowledge.Anyway, I an just annoyed at the supremacy every religion feels toward all others, the division it causes among peoples, and the dangerous ignorance it promotes.
